Why Study Music If You Are Not Planning to Become a Musician?

Music is much more than entertainment. Since ancient times, people have recognised the connection between sound and its influence on the human body and behaviour. Tens of thousands of studies and experiments have demonstrated the benefits of musical activities at any age.
Music Education for Children
Music education for children has become increasingly popular today, which is wonderful to see. However, some parents still ask: “Why should my child study music if they are not going to become a musician?”
I would disagree with this way of thinking. Music is another language through which children can express their thoughts and emotions while discovering the world around them. Singing, for example, can help children begin speaking sooner and support the development of clear pronunciation. Rhythm exercises and the study of basic music theory can also contribute to the development of mathematical skills.
Learning to play a musical instrument develops perseverance, patience, rational thinking and time-management skills. Music lessons strengthen memory through learning lyrics and melodies by heart, improve coordination and, most importantly, bring children a wealth of positive emotions.
How Do Adults Benefit from Music Lessons?
Besides bringing joy and powerful emotions, musical activity can help protect the brain from age-related changes affecting thinking, memory, cognitive abilities and speech. Playing an instrument or singing is considerably more beneficial than simply listening to music. Music lessons also develop attention, reasoning skills and the speed at which we process information.
However, these benefits require regular practice. When adults stop playing or singing, the positive effects may gradually diminish.
Support your mental well-being through music, and help your children develop harmoniously by introducing them to the art of music.
